BOSTON SPRINGS A FETHIVAL 2017: Wicked Queer, Day 7

“Boston Springs A Fethival” season is in high gear as it trucks through to the end of April, and the oldest LGBTQ film festival in America is underway – it’s  the 2017 edition of Wicked Queer – Boston LGBTQ Film Festival!

We have officially crossed the halfway point for this year’s fest, and Wednesday is filled with three great features – two premieres and an Encore of the fest’s Opening Night film

First out of the gate tonight is Heartstone, from first time director Gudmundur Arnar Gudmundsson  This story of teen best friends whose lives take a few twists and turns after they start dating a couple of girls they’ve had their eyes on has been raved about by critics. The Icelandic film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last September, and now the Hub gets to see it – it screens at the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge at 7 PM – get tickets here. This screening is proudly co-presented by The Scandinavian Cultural Center.

Next in line is Check It!, an off the wall documentary directed by Dana Flor and Toby Oppenheimer following…um…well…you know, I don’t know if I can do this justice…the Wicked Queer website describes it as ” about a gay African-American gang struggling to survive in one of Washington D.C.’s roughest neighborhoods through an unlikely avenue: fashion.”  I have to admit, the trailer is something else. This film screens at the Museum of Fine Arts in the Remis Auditorium at 7:30 PM – tickets are available here.

To close out the evening, Wicked Queer presents an Encore presentation of Signature Move, which opened the fest last week – this is your last chance to catch this offbeat comedy drama mixing romance and lucha wrestling.. wow, what a combo!. It screens at the Brattle Theatre at 10 PM – get tickets here.

Don’t forget, Wicked Queer will be just a part of our massive Boston Springs A Festival Double-Feature weekend shows over at Subject:CINEMA the weekend of May 20-21; a complete rundown of the festival and the films therein. You won’t want to miss that. And while you’re at it, don’t forget to check out Wicked Queer’s official web site for info on ALL The films, complete venue and ticket info, and more!

The film fun continues through April 9, at venues all over the Metro area – be sure to check in with eCinemaBoston every morning for each day’s lineup!
