Welcome to eCinemaBoston’s daily coverage of the 2019 Roxbury International Film Festival! The RIFF officially runs from June 20-29, and will be screening films at a variety of locations throughout the Hub, you can check each day’s listings for films, locations, and ticket info.
Day two of RIFF kicks off a weekend full of entertaining and informative film offerings
First up today is the documentary The Color Of Art, following three artists as they navigate the black art community in Chicago. It screens at 2:30 PM at the Museum Of Fine Arts Remis Auditorium. A panel discussion will follow the screening with director David Weathersby; artist Robert Freedman; and fiber artist, holographer, and poet L’Merchie Frazier. Tickets are available here.
Next, the documentary Warrior Women, following the lifelong struggle of a Lakota mother and daughter in the American Indian Movement’s fight for Native liberation from the 1970s to protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline in Standing Rock, ND in 2016. It screens at 5:00 PM, also at the Museum Of Fine Arts Remis Auditorium. A Q&A will follow the screening. TIckets are available here. The feature will be preceded by the screening of two shorts, Riverment and Respect And Love.
Wrapping up Fridays film offerings is the drama Solace, a deeply moving coming-of- age film; t screens at 8:00 PM, also at the Museum Of Fine Arts Remis Auditorium, and is co-presented by Wicked Queer Boston LGBTQ Film Festival. A Q&A with director Jacarrea Garraway will follow the screening. TIckets are available here. The feature will be preceded by the screening of short Mpthers Are Like Mirrors.
Also happening today, the Boston Young Professionals Network’s vendors will be selling their wares at Hibernian Hall, 184 Dudley St, Boston.
There will also be a post film hangout tonight at Slades Bar And Grill, 958 Tremont Street, following the screenings, beginning at 9:30 PM, there will be free admission, and no cover charge for those with a RoxFilm pass or screening ticket.
