Welcome to eCinemaBoston’s daily coverage of the 2019 Roxbury International Film Festival! The RIFF officially runs from June 20-29, and will be screening films at a variety of locations throughout the Hub, you can check each day’s listings for films, locations, and ticket info.
After last night’s Juneteenth kickoff pre-show, the festival has it’s official opening night this evening with two highly anticipated films.
First up, the critically acclaimed documentary Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am, an intimate look at the legendary writer. It screens at 4:30 PM at the Museum Of Fine Arts Remis Auditorium. Selected readings will precede the screening, which is being co-presented by WGBH Boston Public Radio. Tickets are available here.
Next, the narrative film Una The Great Movie, a comedy with many reflections on contemporary issues. It screens at 7:30 PM, also at the Museum Of Fine Arts Remis Auditorium. Director Jennifer Sharpe will be in attendance for a Q&A after the film screening. It is being co-sponsored by the Boston Latino Film Festival, Women in Film and Video New England, and Black Travel Movement . TIckets are available here. Those who attend are also encouraged to pick up tickets to the film “The Chasing Of A Great Movie” a documentary about the making of this film, screening on June 23rd.
There will be an opening night reception at MIDA, 782 Tremont Street, following the screenings, beginning at 9:30 PM, there will be light snacks provided by the restaurant, and a cash bar, admission is ten dollars, tickets are available here!
