BSAF 2019: Belmont World Film series concludes with “SIR”

The Boston Springs A Fethival season for 2019 continues, and the weekly Belmont World Film series has their final screening for this series this evening

Running on Mondays through April 29, BWF’s annual series spotlights critically acclaimed films from around the world, many making their local premieres during the series. For tonight’s screening ONLY, the film will screen at the West Newton Cinema, 1296 Washington St, in West Newton.

This week’s concluding film is a co-production of India and France, the New England Premiere of “SIR from director Rohena Gera. Here’s the write up from the official film series website:

In order to escape the pitfalls of the old-fashioned village that condemned her as a young widow, a woman moves to Mumbai to become a servant for a privileged businessman, with dreams of becoming a fashion designer. Winner of the Gan Foundation Award for Distribution at the Cannes Film Festival.

The film is in Hindi and Marathi with subtitles. The guest speaker this week is Farida Kathawalla, co-founder of the American Indian Foundation’s Circle of Hope, who is also at the forefront of many philanthropic organizations. The film is sponsored by the Consulate General of India, and co-presented by¬†Indian Americans of Lexington and the Network of South Asian Professionals in Boston.
