The Boston Springs A Fethival season for 2019 continues, and the weekly Belmont World Film series has another screening this evening
Running on Mondays through April 29, BWF’s annual series spotlights critically acclaimed films from around the world, many making their local premieres during the series.
This week’s film is a co-production of Czech Republic and Iran, the New England Premiere of “Hendi And Hormoz“ from director Abbas Amini. Here’s the write up from the official film series website:
According to local custom on the island of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf, thirteen-year-old Hendi is married off to sixteen-year-old Hormoz. Although they barely know each other, the young couple eventually begins to enjoy their married life together. Since work is scarce, Hormuz is forced to take on a dangerous and risky job to support his wife and upcoming child. An official selection at the Berlin Film Festival.
The film is in Persian with English subtitles. The guest speaker this week is Dr. Fatemeh Haghighatjoo, a former member of the Iranian Parliament and founder and CEO of the Nonviolent Initiative for Democracy Inc. whose expertise is in Iranian domestic affairs and women’s issues. the film is co-presented by the Iranian Association of Boston.
