BSAF 2018: ReelAbilities Boston Film Festival, Day Eight

IT’S HERE! IT’S HERE! As we told you a couple weeks back, spring is the busiest season for film festivals in Metro Boston. But this year is especially crazy, because FIVE of the festivals were running their programming on the same weekend. Now, that weekend has passed, and two of the festivals are saying goodbye for the year tonight, as another one holds it’s opening night gala.

So…lets get started kiddies! Boston Springs A Fethival 2018 is officially underway, and we’ll have info for all the various festivals and their schedules every day, so be sure to keep your browser turned to eCinemaBoston.com for all the latest info!

ReelAbilities Boston showcases those with disabilities and the way people overcome them. It’s a unique film festival concept that has been happening in New York since 2007, and beginning with Cincinnati in 2012, has now spread to a national network of local festivals.

Day eight will call it a festival for this year. Closing the fest this year is the critically-acclaimed documentary Off The Rails. Here’s the official synopsis from the RAB website:

The remarkable true story of Darius McCollum, a man with Asperger’s syndrome, whose love of transit has landed him in jail 32 times for impersonating New York City bus drivers and subway conductors. Although Darius has never damaged any property or hurt anyone in his decades of service, he remains imprisoned in Rikers Island in New York. Darius’ story embodies the criminal justice system’s failure to channel the passions of a mentally challenged man into a purposeful life.

As always, a discussion will follow the screening, this time with film subjects Sally Butler, Esq., lawyer for Darius McCollum; and Liz Loebman, Forensic Social Worker. The film is co-presented with Asperger/Autism Network, Roxbury International Film Festival, Disability Law Center, Aspire, and Harvard Law School Project.

The screening takes place at the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge, at 7 PM, and admission is $10 ; you can purchase your tickets here! Once again, you can use promo code RFFBoston to save $5 on tickets!
