BSAF 2018: Boston Underground Film Festival, Day Four

IT’S HERE! IT’S HERE! As we told you a couple weeks back, spring is the busiest season for film festivals in Metro Boston. But this year is especially crazy, because FIVE of the festivals are running all or part of their programming on the SAME WEEKEND! So you have a ton of choices to make.

So lets keep going, kiddies! Boston Springs A Fethival 2018 is officially underway, and we’ll have info for all the various festivals and their schedules every day, so be sure to keep your browser turned to eCinemaBoston.com for all the latest info!

Boston Underground Film Festival is marking their twentieth anniversary this year with a variety of films you can only find at BUFF every year – off the wall, strange, creepy, exciting, subversive – you name it, BUFF has it!

It’s Saturday, and BUFF has a huge lineup of great stuff in store, so lets get started!

Saturday Morning All-you-can-eat Cereal Cartoon Party – 10 AM

The tradition continues! Every year, BUFF brings you a binge of vintage cartoons from the 1960s through the 1980s, punctuated by classic commercials and PSAs. It’s the only part of BUFF that is “kid friendly” and plenty of cereal choices (and non dairy options) will be available! It’s always a hoot!

Top Knot Detective – 12:30 PM @ Harvard Film Archive

This lunacy has been raved about since it’s release – the story of a classic television series…that never actually happened!  The “true story” of the 1990s Japanese television series Ronin Suiri Tentai (or Deductive Reasoning Ronin), which became a cult hit in Australia. Except it’s a total sham – both parody and satire, this is a must see!

Sound + Vision – 2 PM

BUFF’s annual music video block, with some of the most intriguing and subversive music videos around!

Spoor – 2:15 PM @ Harvard Film Archive

Janina Duszejko, an elderly woman, lives alone in the Klodzko Valley where a series of mysterious crimes are committed. Duszejko is convinced that she knows who or what is the murderer, but nobody believes her.

Comedy? Maybe! Shorts Program – 4 PM

A collection of off the wall short films that purport to be comedy. But as BUFF’s Kevin Monaghan puts it, “We think The Shining is a comedy“, so you know what you might be in for…MOOHAHAHAHAHA

The Ranger – 7 PM

Teen punks, on the run from the cops and hiding out in the woods, come up against the local authority – an unhinged park ranger with an axe to grind. Director Jenn Wexler is scheduled to be in attendance.

Revenge – 9:30 PM

Never take your mistress on an annual guys’ getaway, especially one devoted to hunting – a violent lesson for three wealthy married men.

Secret Screening – 11:45 PM

From the BUFF website: “For the brave, bold & beautiful creatures who crave a little terror and mystery at midnight, BUFF is overjoyed to present this secret screening of… well, we can’t tell you. Trust us when we say this highly-anticipated genre gem is appropriately placed at the witching hour for the most adventurous and bravest amongst us.”  You HAVE been warned…

All films at BUFF screen at the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge unless noted above. You can check for tickets for each film, as well as full information on this years’ films and festivities, at the Boston Underground Film Festival website at http://bostonunderground.org!
