Kim and I took in the Boston premiere of Fursonas last night at Arts/Paramount’s Bright Family Screening Room, and I have to say I was stunned and disappointed to see such a low turnout for a film that got such huge praise at Slamdance in January – there were maybe 30 people present for what turned out to be wonderful, fascinating documentary about the “furry culture” and both perception and misconceptions therein when it comes to how most people think about it. People have no idea what they missed – here’s hoping they catch it when Gravatas brings it to theaters later this summer. And for those of you who have never attended a film at Arts/Paramount before, it’s one of the cities’ true hidden gems – a wonderful place to see a film, with comfortable seating, excellent sound, and a huge screen. Well worth a visit.
Wicked Queer has another full week of exciting programming in store for the MetroBoston area, and we’ll have daily schedules and info throughout the week. And remember, you do NOT have to be LGBTQ to enjoy the films that this festival offers – you just have to love films of all types, and that’s most people, right?
