Sundance Grand Jury and Audience Award winner “Me and Earl And the Dying Girl” will close the 2015 edition of the Independent Film Festival of Boston, which is happening April 22-29 at the Somerville, Brattle, and Coolidge Corner theatres in Somerville, Cambridge, and Brookline respectively (but none, as usual, actually IN Boston, heh heh). The film stars 2011 eCO Rising Stars Honors alum Thomas Mann along with newcomer RJ Cyler in a story about a couple of eccentric filmmaking high school buddies who are forced by one of their moms to spend time with a girl with leukemia. Already critically lauded, with even some Oscar talk for star Mann, and being touted as an even more charming version of last year’s cancer-themed romance smash “The Fault In Our Stars“, it will hit theaters June 12 courtesy of Fox Searchlight.
Opening night film is another early festival favorite. “The End Of The Tour” stars Jesse Eisenberg and Jason Segal, based on David Lipsky‘s 2010 book Although of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself. Eisenberg plays Lipsky, and Segal plays writer David Foster Wallace.
Every year, the Independent Film Festival of Boston puts together a spectacular lineup of films, and this year is no exception. One thing that does seem a bit unusual is that the fest is doc-heavy this year, with doc features outnumbering narrative features almost two to one. Here’s a complete list of titles coming this year, courtesy of the IFFB website; we’ll have more info and analysis of a number of films in the days ahead.
