As the MeetUp group begins, we’re planning on being strictly informal, just meeting up with people interested in seeing a film at the same time we see it. But as the group grows and more people meet each other, it’s our hope to get it a little more formal and plan for other activities before and/or after the film.
The idea is to meet some of Boston’s thousands of movie fans, and hopefully connect with them for seeing and discussing movies! We’ll also be covering our MeetUps on the Subject:CINEMA podcast as well, with our film reviews and also how our MeetUp for a particular film went.
We depend on public transportation, so most of the theatres we go to are close to the T or a bus line. More often than not, our MeetUps will most likely occur at either Showcase Cinemas in Revere or at AMC Boston Common in Boston. We will make occasional forays to other favorite venues such as the Brattle and Kendall Square Theatres in Cambridge, the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, and the Somerville Theatre in Somerville.
We will also let our readers know about Festival films we plan to attend in advance, so you can find out what we’re going to be seeing at Boston’s many film festivals throughout the year.
We also hope to sponsor our own series of movies eventually through the Tugg service; an attempt at this earlier this summer didn’t work out, so it is our hope that our MeetUp group will be a great place to promote a Tugg event and help us sell enough tickets to make it work!
Our very first informal MeetUp will be Friday September 28th at the Kendall Square Theatre in Cambridge for the Boston area premiere of a movie we have both been waiting MONTHS to see, “The Perks Of Being A Wallflower”, starring Emma Watson and PNR Rising Star 2010 alumni Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller. I have to be totally honest here – we’ve already seen it at a sneak last week, and we cannot wait to see it again!
