Hurricane Irene is having one hell of an impact on the movie industry this weekend, as hundreds of movie theatres shut down in its anticipated path.
Doing a check around the Boston area, here is a list of theaters that will be closed Sunday, August 28:
ALL AMC Theatres (Chestnut Hill, Harvard Square, Boston Common, Braintree, Framingham, Liberty Tree Mall)
Regal Fenway
Coolidge Corner
Brattle Theater (they will reopen for evening shows if the MBTA starts running again, don’t hold your breath, Ned…)
CinemaSalem
East Bridgewater 5
Sharon Cinemas 8
Simons IMAX at the New England Aquarium
Omnimax at the Museum Of Science
Among the other theaters:
Landmark Theatres has a notice that theaters may be closed or have a truncated schedule due to Irene, and to call the local box office; I think Kendall Square and Embassy will probably be closed, but you should call ahead to be sure.
Cabot Street Cinema in Beverly appears to be going on with Le Grand David this afternoon as usual.
National Amusements: NONE of the chains Showcase Cinemas locations appear to be closing today.
Cape Ann Community Cinema in Gloucester says they will remain open as long as power stays on.
FEI’s Somerville and Capitol theaters appear to be open for business today.
Cinemagic Salisbury appears to be open today.
Dedham Community Theatre has nothing about closing on their site, so I have to assume that they will be open.
Entertainment Cinemas’ website does not indicate any closings, but it would be best to check their hotlines if you’re planning to go out to Fresh Pond or one of their other locations as EC has one of the worst, most visitor-exasperating websites on the planet.
Gloucester Cinemas appears to be open today.
Patriot Cinemas locations appear to be open for business today.
Harvard Film Archive appears to be going ahead with their 7 PM showing of Julius Caesar as planned this evening.
Hollywood Hits in Danvers appears to be open for business today.
Jordan’s IMAX in Natick appears to be closed today; Jordan’s IMAX in Reading appears to be doing business today.
I was unable to reach the Museum Of Fine Arts’ website this morning; most of the museum’s in Boston have closed for the day, so I would think the MFA is included in that.
Newburyport Screening Room appears to be open today.
Stage Two Cinema Pub in Amesbury and Chunky’s Cinema Pub in Haverhill both appear open for business today.
StudioCinema in Belmont appears open today.
VisionMax Cinemas in Salisbury appears open, but their online ticketing is down.
West Newton Cinemas appear to be open today.
