Boston film hub Popcorn N Roses names top films of 2007

Popular film hub Popcorn N Roses (which is the parent of this blog) announced it’s 2007 Year End Film awards, the 3rd Annual Poppies and Rosies, respectively, on an episode of the site’s podcast, Subject:CINEMA, which was first released on New Year’s Eve.

Working as both writers for the site and as the co-hosts of the sites’ popular Podcast Alley top 20-rated podcast, critics TC Kirkham and Kim Brown named the off-the-wall suicide-themed comedy "Wristcutters: A Love Story" the best film of 2007. Kirkham’s awards, the Poppies, also cited "Wristcutters" star Patrick Fugit in a tie for Best Actor with Christopher Plummer of the little-seen limited release film "Man In The Chair", while Helena Bonham-Carter took best actress for "Sweeney Todd". Queen Latifiah of "Hairspray" took home the best supporting actress, while veteran character actor M. Emmet Walsh was awarded best supporting actor for "Man In The Chair". Kirkham also cited "Chair" director Michael Schreoder as best director, and also named Tom Guiry from the Boston-lensed "Black Irish" as his male Breakthrough Performance.

Brown also named Latifah as best supporting actress, and Bonham-Carter as best actress, but split with her co-host husband by naming young Anton Yelchin as best actor for his starring role in the indie film "Fierce People", while Yelchin’s co-star Donald Sutherland took the best supporting actor Rosies, which she calls her awards. Director John Carney took best director for his critically acclaimed indie "Once".

In addition to the above, The Poppies and Rosies each present Official awards in another two dozen catagories, and the hosts and writers for the site have some fun with two dozen comical "Unofficial "awards each year as well.

A complete list of Poppies and Rosies winners follows. The full list, including the Unofficial awards, can be found on the parent websites, http://popcornnroses.com and http://subjectcinema.com.
